GOD’S STANDARD:- HOLINESS: APPROPRIATION:- I Jn 3:1-9

  1. Christ likeness (vs 2):- Ro 8:29; I Cor 15:49; II Cor 3:18; 2 Pe 1:4
  2. Spiritual cleansing (vs 3) :- II Cor 7:1; II Ti 2:21
  3. Sin bearer (vs 5) :- I Pe 2:24; He 9:28
  4. Abiding (vs 6) :- Jn 15:10; I Jn 2:6; II Jn 9
  5. Doing righteousness (vs 7) :- Mt 5:20; Ho 10:12; I Ti 6:11
  6. Regeneration (vs 9) :- Ez 36:26; Tit 3:5; I Jn 5:1
  7. Seed – His Word (vs 10):- II cor 9:10; Mk 4:15

“GO” In Mark’s Gospel

  1. Go and show yourself- let others see (1:44)- Praise and offer to God in gratitude /

Obedience.

  1. Go and tell- (5:19)-personal experience with the Lord-testifying/ sharing.
  2. Go and sell-(10:21)- renunciation- get rid of all hindrances-to follow Jesus-detach

      yourself..

  1. Go and loose & bring- (11:2)- others to the Lord- set free others, lead them to Him.
  2. Go and preach Gospel-(16:15) –reaching out to the world

HE HAS CHOSEN US TO “GO”:- Jn 15:16

  1. Go and sell : Mk 10:21- go and get rid of what is hindering- a life of sacrifice

Eg Abraham, etc

  1. Go and do likewise: Lk 10:37- a life of service – share and give what you have.
  2. Go and tell : Mk 5:19- a life of witnessing- tell the truth/ gospel
  3. Go and show: Lk 17:14-  a life of example
  4. Go and make disciple: Mk 28:16-20- a life of productivity

-         the ultimate “GO” – multiplying, making disciples.

GREAT MAN- JOHN THE BAPTIST: Mat 11:11

We are forerunners of the second coming.

  1. He was used by God because he was obedient – Mat 3:15; Lk 5:5-7
  2. He influenced people because he practiced self- denial.
  3. He was given authority because he was humble- Lk 18:14; Jn 3:30; 1:27
  4. He was powerful because he was spirit filled- Lk 1:15; Jn 14:17; I Jn 4:4
  5. He was progressive because he was jealous- Jn 5:35; I Cor 9:22; Jam 1:25
  6. He was a soul-winner because he was courageous- Mat 3:7; 14:4
  7. He was feared because he was Holy- Mark 6:20
  8. He was martyred because he didn’t compromise- Mk 6:27; Mat 5:11,12.

GOSPEL MESSAGE- LUKE 5:18-26

  1. The problem of sin:- the presence, consequence, evil, corruption in man.
  2. The penalty of sin:- the result, God’s judgement, wrath, hell, no peace.
  3. The pardon of sin:- God loves, Jesus died, forgiveness available through Jesus
  4. The power to live new life:- Jesus gives power to live new life, supernatural life.

FROM SUFFERING TO GLORY:- Rom 8:18-39 Key verse 18.

  1. Hope- He has given- for the creation, bodies, all

(vs 18-26) – there is full redemption ahead- soon

-         to wait patiently.

  1. Faith- (vs 26-30)- Spirit’s help for comfort – prayers

-         prayers to keep us going.

-         In- God’s working all for our good.

  1. Love- (vs 31-39)- God’s love strong.

-         able to give all- do everything

-         eternal union- assurance.

STAGES OF GROWTH:_

1. Newly born- acceptance

2. Lying down- feeding- desiring

3. Sitting- Learning- recognition

4. Eating solid food- obeying/knowing deeper things- understanding

5. Standing- stable, balanced, strong

6. Walking- identity, manifesting Christ’s life, behavior, conduct before the world

7. Speaking- expressing, initiating, doing, witnessing, sharing, confessing

8. Running- disciplined life, sanctified, qualities developed, endurance

9. Leaping- joyful always, able to face persecution, willingly obeying , initiative

10. Rising/ flying/ mounting up- matured, able to disciple others, leading others.

Gossipping: “Esteem others better than yourself” Phil 2:1-11; 1Thess. 5:12-13.

How to esteem others better than yourself?

1. By having lowliness of mind: (Phil. 2:3): in humility: thinking low of yourself: the best example is the Lord Jesus.

2. By Not being selfishly concerned about yourself: not to seek self-interest always. But to see the good and interest of others   

                                                                              too. (V 4). By showing concern for others.

3.  By honoring others: Rom. 12:10. giving due respect to each one. It starts in the family.

                                    Eph. 5- Husband and wife to respect one another, so also children.

                                    1Tim. 5:17. Elders/ teachers are due of double honor.

                                     Heb. 13:7, 17. b obeying and submitting to the leaders.

4. By Preferring others Rom. 12:10. putting them first. Giving priority to others. Expressing genuine appreciation.

5. By Serving others in love: Gal. 5:13-15. not fighting, backbiting. But building up one another. Seeking to serve.

6. By Submitting to one another: Eph. 5:21. in reverence to the Lord. Submission is a sign of maturity.

7. By Speaking properly: James 3:1-3, 4:11-12. Not slandering, not speaking evil of others.

                                       Ex.23:1; Ps. 101:5; Prov. 11:9, 17:9,26:20; Rom. 1:30; Eph. 4:31; 1Tim. 3:11; Tit. 2:3, 3:2.
